If you do one thing in town, make it the Bollon Heritage Centre. Nestled in the heart of the main street, it's easy to spend the afternoon retracing Bollon's history. Even the keenest history buff will be pleasantly surprised by the range of artefacts and stories that narrate the town's rural history and Aboriginal culture. Be sure to check out the momentos of visiting politicians displayed on the walls.

Bowra Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the heart of the Mulga Lands Bioregion, and constitutes an important refuge for the wildlife of the area. It is a renowned hotspot for inland Australia’s threatened birdlife, making it one of the country’s most rewarding birdwatching destinations. All proceeds from Bowra campground and visitor program will go back into the running of the campground and conservation of wildlife. There are a variety of camping options available, please take care to select the option best suited to your circumstances before booking. Please read our conditions of entry for Bowra Wildlife Sanctuary Bowra will be open to visitors for the 2023 season from 1 May to 14 October. South west of St George, Dirranbandi is a small country town that comes alive through the cotton harvest months. If you have heard of the famous Cubbie Station, then you will be interested to know that the largest irrigated cotton farm in the southern hemisphere is only a stone's throw away from this small town. As you drive into Dirranbandi, you'll pass by the town's levee bank which is famous for having saved the town from flooding on more than one occasion.

Hebel Hotel

The Hebel Hotel & General Store is a classic single-storey timber structure, with a tin roof and wrap-around veranda, fronted by convenient racking rails to tie up your horse. Hebel is a tiny town in south-west Queensland, on the Castlereagh Highway, just a few kilometres on the Sunshine State side of the border with NSW. It counts around 60 residents across the district.

Oakey Creek Ringer - Condamine Bell Maker and Blacksmith

The iconic Australian Bell was first made by Condamine Blacksmith, Samuel William Jones, in 1868. Since then less than 10 blacksmiths have mastered the skill to produce the distinctive bell sound which can travel for miles. Barry Doonan & his Condamine Bells featured in Issue 60 of the R M Williams Outback Magasine.
In more recent years, Barry's elder son Michael Hawley continues the blacksmith tradition of making Condamine Bells.

Riversands Vineyards has been a Blacket family venture since 1996. In that time David and Alison have developed the vineyard and raised three boys. Riversands is nestled on the banks of the Balonne River in St George, south-west Queensland. We are Queensland's most western winery. You will find us 5 minutes from the town centre open 7 days a week.

The river vegetation and bird life all combined to make this a real highlight to our visit to St George. The perfectly calm conditions that day provided stunning mirror images of trees and sky giving the extraordinary sensation of floating in space rather than on a river.

The Lake - Quilpie

Experience an outback station stay on a 2,500-acre property running Merino sheep, beef cattle and Kalahari red goats.

The Lake Quilpie is just a short drive (4km) from downtown Quilpie with easy access for conventional vehicles, motorhomes, caravans and touring coaches. Taking pride-of-place on the property is Lake Houdraman, a beautiful expanse of water set amongst shady gum trees. Swim, fish or ride your pushbike around the lake. Plus, it's a birdwatcher's delight.

The Unique Egg

In an unassuming small low set brick building in the main street of town, you will find the humble emu egg carved into a stunning, illuminated piece of art at the Unique Egg. Local character and artisan Steve Margaritis - or 'Stavros' as we know him - has carved an amazing variety of patterns and scenes on each egg and illuminated them. This is the world's only display of hand carved, illuminated emu eggs, which have been gifted as far as the White House!
